Please beware of counterfeit Yoshitomo Nara prints

There have been reports of counterfeits (illegal copies) of Yoshitomo Nara’s prints in circulation, being presented as prints created by Yoshitomo Nara. The Foundation has also confirmed these reports.

Not only the production of counterfeits, but also knowingly selling works not created by Yoshitomo Nara through misrepresentation as Yoshitomo Nara artwork is an illegal act that violates the artist’s copyright. As the manager of the artist’s copyrights, the Foundation will continue to take severe measures in response.

To persons considering purchasing print works by Yoshitomo Nara:

Print artworks by Yoshitomo Nara are currently (2022) sold through Pace Prints.
There are cases where past works created by Yoshitomo Nara are sold through secondary galleries or auction companies, but persons considering purchasing through secondary markets are urged to thoroughly confirm the work itself, signature, edition, etc., in addition to provenance history.
In particular, there are many reports of counterfeit Yoshitomo Nara works on online auction sites and shopping sites.

To persons selling Yoshitomo Nara print works:

We ask that galleries and auction companies thoroughly confirm the techniques and provenance of artworks before handling them. Knowingly selling a counterfeit as artwork created by Yoshitomo Nara is an illegal act in violation of the artist’s copyright, and the artist and this Foundation will take severe measures in response.
In addition, please note that the Foundation cannot grant permission for use of images of print works for which we cannot confirm authenticity.
